No Birkenstock allowed

Birkenstocks shoes: why are you having this success right now? I really feel astonished. I waited for a long time before talking about it.. maybe my opinion could have changed.. but now I know it is not just a temporary repulsion for me.  The more I see them all around, the more I am convinced that I  don’t want to wear it absolutely!  What I really can’t understand is why a piece like this has had this success, because you all can confirm that it is obviously ugly, first of all, besides the fact that this kind of footwear can’t enhance any girls finally! Miranda Kerr included. In the end they are slippers. Just slippers. Ergonomic slippers, not really refined. And the variations in paint, laminate, striped or floral certainly do not help the trend. For me they are out.

Surely the fashion system can do wonders in promoting and disseminating pieces which aren’t always special but I think there are limits that are derived from the aesthetic sense of each of us. I’ll try to explain my theory, but I won’t be categorical, since we all have our tastes and we all love or hate something in particular. Someone could love them…

I just think that this kind of shoes -made in Germany-  aren’t as versatile as they say, in addition they aren’t exactly cheap and also they don’t value the physique of all the women wearing them: they don’t enhance the feet and they don’t give a good appearance!  We saw them on beautiful models, actresses and fashion bloggers and maybe that’s what makes them trendy pieces. I don’t know about you but.. I have to find yet a perfect outfit for these strange shoes .. I guess I won’t find it ever!  No Birkenstocks for me, thank you!

P.S. guess what if these beautiful girls below would wear another pair of shoes..!

Kisses, Julie

Shoes adventures at MICAM 2014

To all footwear lovers, MICAM is THE temple of any sort of shoes where to admire in advance what kind of shoes you will wear next year! MICAM is one of my favourite fashion dates of the season in order to visit old friends, discover new companies with new collections and try on a lot of new shoes, always checking new trends. Walking between the stands, interviewing buyers and designers I met beautiful people and saw beautiful shoes.

During this edition I was a guest at some stands and I really want to thank my dear friends from the Japanese Pavilion! They are always great, very kind and it is a great pleasure to spend some time with them during the fair between innovative shoes and a sushi party!

The team of Saint Honorè Paris gave me a warm welcome at their stand with sweet cream puffs, their nice press release placed in an orange envelope and a cute present!! Their shoes continue to be fresh-looking, pretty and cozy! And their staff are very professional and friendly!

About 1.600 italian and foreign companies took part in this big shoe-fair which is one of the most famous in the world. I heard from online newspapers and blogs that the final results were not too thrilling because of the global situation but I am convinced that a lot of companies did their best to show us outstanding products, to get back into the game during these hard times. I am just thinking about the continuous renovation of the Italian company TU OGGI which created an eco-friendly collection made entirely of natural materials.

However, in my opinion, this edition has been interesting if considering these trends of the moment:

– the focus on the values of craftsmanship, the recovery of the tradition of the artisan culture;

– the power of the eco-friendly trend, a new form of awareness which is involving more and more companies;

– the marked preference of high quality materials keeping good prices;

– the total look trend with a special focus on good quality shoes (Patrizia Pepe, Desigual..).

Esprit Dior at Moca of Shanghai

locandina DIOR

Unfortunately I won’t be able  to attend this beautiful exhibition, but I am here to recommend it and I am glad to write this note just to raise your interest and curiosity! Hey you, if you can.. please go there  ;)! I bet you will appreciate.

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Shanghai joined forces with Maison Dior in to organize another beautiful fashion exhibition: Esprit Dior. The show is the celebration of this amazing brand and it concerns about the history and creativity of the maison thank to about a hundred stunning dresses, accessories, jewelry, scents, design sketches and a outstanding selection of photos realized by the great Patrick Demarchelier. As I checked it, the exhibition is characterized also by the frequent references between the Dior creations and the artworks of Chinese contemporary artists (photographers, painters, sculptors). A real pity not to be there…anyway…I will organize a trip to China soon!
